Rhymes_with_Orange-familytreeAdoption Process

Georgia Animal Rescue and Defence, Inc. helps homeless animals find the loving homes they deserve.  If you are interested in adopting one of our adoptable pets, please read our adoption policy and then complete the online adoption application or email us with any questions.  If emailing us about a particular dog, please put the dog’s name in the subject line of your email.  Please allow us up to 48 hours to respond to your email.

Shelter hours are by appointment only. Please put in an online adoption application prior to coming. Adoptions are not first-come-first-serve, but are based on the best fit for an animal’s particular needs. We are an all volunteer organization and spend many hours reviewing applications, checking vet references, etc. This is valuable time that is wasted if once we approve an application, the adopter is not serious about adopting and changes their mind.

We adopt in our home state of Georgia, certain areas of FL, and all along the east coast and including Vermont. Approved adopters in GA, FL, SC, and NC would need to drive to one our mobile events and pick up their new pet.  All other areas in our adoption zone would require a paid transport and this fee would be in addition to our adoption fee.

Once you are approved to adopt, please complete an online adoption contract.  You may then pay the adoption fee online, using the Donation link via credit/debit card or Paypal, or you may pay in person by cash or credit/debit.  We are not taking checks any longer.  Our adoption fee varies depending on the dog and the circumstances (i.e., extensive medical treatment).  Most adoption fees range between $100 and $400.   Please inquire about each dog individually.   Our transports to the Northeast usually require an additional $100 to $150.

Adoption includes:  spay/neuter, worming, up to date on shots, microchip, and 30 days free pet insurance.

CATS : Unfortunately GARD currently does not have the facilities to properly house and care for  very many cats.  If you have a cat that needs to be rehomed, you can email us pictures of the cat and details and we can courtesy post them for adoption on our website.  The following requirements apply: cats over 4 months must have their rabies shot and be spayed or neutered, all cats must be feline leukemia negative (if a litter, the mother or one kitten must be tested), and they must have their feline leukemia vaccination.  GARD does feed several feral cat colonies and operates a TNR (Trap-Neuter-Release) program (which includes spaying) for these colonies.  Any donations towards these efforts to help our cats is much appreciated.
